Sierras Bayas owes its name to the color of its mountains. Sierra Amarilla was called by the former owners of this land. These mountains already appeared with the name "Sierra Baya" on a map of 1864, but only in 1879 was it mentioned as a town, for which the date of foundation is estimated to be October 20, 1879.
It is a very pretty and picturesque town and very quiet with many places to visit. Its recent history is marked by the production of cement and its limestone quarries that are still operating.
