In the 17th century, thanks to increased trade with the island of Oléron, the villages of La Pointe, Nodes, la Garde, Sainceaudiére, Chatain and Chapus took on new importance but were still without a church or temple. . While passing through Oléron, Madame de Maintenon would have liked to do devotions. Informed of the absence of a place of worship in these villages of La Pointe, she would have sent a donation upon her return to Paris, convincing King Louis XIV to build the Saint Louis church in 1687. The building is composed of a single nave, a shallow transept and a semicircular apse. It opened to the faithful in 1694. The chapel was first served by the Récollets monks of Marennes, then by a priest who became the priest after 1856. The Saint-Louis church is a parish of sailors, as evidenced by the stone altar. of size decorated with a ship and anchors as well as the stained glass window of Saint Peter where Fort Louvois appears. It was in 1957 that Father Paul Bourgeon had the bell tower built, installed electronic bells, systems of crystal crosses with spring wire which oscillate in the void, the sound is amplified by speakers and gives the change with real bells. In 1969 he witnessed his dream come true, the installation of two other bells named Madeleine and Jeanne-Andrée.
