    Until the city fire on May 24, 1842, the Berga town hall was located in the middle of today's market square, near the source of the fire. It was of "small size and inappropriate furnishings", but already had an inn. It was completely destroyed in the fire.
    The town hall and office building (also called the court house, the part of the house that now houses the actual town hall) were built next to each other in 1843, connected by a tower.
    In 1844 the tower button was placed on the new town hall tower, containing an earthenware pot with information about Berga, its history, its inhabitants and its rule. The tower clock was probably installed in 1852.

        Berga/Elster is a district of the town of Berga-Wünschendorf in the district of Greiz in the east of the Free State of Thuringia. It stretches along a slope in a widening of the Elster valley. Berga is located in the Thuringian Vogtland.
