On an area of 700 m², the permanent exhibition in the former municipal fish auction hall from 1910 also shows ship models and original boats, paintings, nautical equipment and other maritime exhibits from the past 200 years.

The former fish auction hall from 1910 survived WW II without damage, but lost its function when the fish market moved to the mouth of the Schwentine in 1948. After a long period of vacancy, the demolition was decided in 1966, but not carried out. Six years later it was listed as a historical monument and in April 1978 the Maritime Museum was opened there.
