The Hundebrücke is named after the word "dog" for small wagons that carried stones, ore and coal. In this case, the bridge was used to transport sandstone. Built in the middle of the 19th century, it consists of a stone arch bridge and an iron truss bridge.

"The railway line that today runs from Wuppertal-Vohwinkel to Essen goes back to the Deilthal horse-drawn railway or Prince Wilhelm Railway, which was built in 1831 to transport coal more easily from the Ruhr to Elberfeld, where a main sales area was.

In the years 1844-47 the horse-drawn railway was converted into a railway with locomotive operation. The route was extended north to Überruhr and south to Vohwinkel. At the end of the railway on the Ruhr, a turntable was built on which the locomotives could be turned. Initially, the route south of Neviges had a hairpin bend, which was necessary to overcome the steep gradient. Later - with more powerful locomotives - the route was straightened. In 1854 the railway company was placed under state control. In 1862, the construction of the Ruhr bridge near Steele, the railway was to be connected to the line of the Bergisch-Märkische Railway that had meanwhile been built there. Consequently, the Prince Wilhelm Railway Company was then taken over by the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company. In 1872, another bridge over the Ruhr near Kupferdreh was built to connect the Ruhr Valley Railway, which used the track of the Prince Wilhelm Railway to Steele.

The line has not been used for coal transport for many years. But it still exists: as the S9 S-Bahn line, which runs between Wuppertal-Oberbarmen and Haltern."
