When in 1933 Martin Luther's 450th birthday was remembered, Barbyer citizens planted a Luther's linden tree between St. Mary's Church and the town hall. A stone on the tree still bears witness to it today. This year, the beginning of the Reformation 500 years ago is omnipresent.
"The village council Barby has decided to plant a Luthereiche on the occasion of this anniversary, a tree that has been native to the Elbe lowlands for millennia. She should find her place in the meadow in front of the Marienkirche, "informs Mayor Ernst Neugebauer. Mayor Torsten Reinharz will lead the planting ceremony. "We would be delighted if on Friday, September 22, from 17 clock many citizens of this event would experience," said Neugebauer.
