The best place to explore the peaceful and green landscape of Stolac is the Vidoška fortress, which is located on the top of the hill, just a 15-minute walk from the center. Not only is the panorama over the city and the beautiful deep green Bregava river breathtaking, but the history of this ancient fortress is also fascinating. Founded by the Byzantine Emperor Constantine in the 5th century, the castle survived many empires, including the Ottomans and Austria-Hungarians. With its 13 towers in the 17th century, it was one of the best fortified cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Stolac is the largest citadel in the country to this day. Every year in May there is a traditional medieval fair called Stolačka Tarča, the only one of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Stolac is a small town near Mostar in Herzegovina, the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Stolac is located in the fertile valley of the Bregava in the otherwise barren and karstified Herzegovina. The municipality of Stolac has almost 15,000 inhabitants.
