    August von Hedemann (1784-1859) was a Prussian officer and in 1840 the commander of the Erfurt Fortress. But he also co-founded the Erfurt Horticultural Association and had several paths laid out in the Steiger, which should open up this forest to the Erfurt citizens. The monument is located on Hedemann-Weg, which crosses the Silberhüttengraben.
