"75 years ago, on April 1st, 1894, the communities Gruiten, Millrath, Hochdahl and Schöller became independent and formed the“ Amt Gruiten “.

The town hall in Gruiten was surrounded by a park-like facility, which was connected to the official savings bank. In the old core of the town hall there were only a few service rooms with only a few people on duty.

The then mayor Toni Armbrustmacher had his official apartment in the town hall. A pensioner, with his wife, also lived on the first floor of the town hall. The only office room was the meeting room on the first floor. The policeman lived in the attic with his family.

If there were law enforcement officers, then there were two local authorities who not only provided security, but also ran errands for this task, for the office and the community.

Other state law enforcement officers were two gendarmes who were equipped with bicycles and thus performed their duty.

With the construction of the railway in 1841, the first residential buildings were built in the vicinity of the train station. This is where the development of Gruiten continued. The town hall was built here in 1896, and the post office was also located there. This is where all the threads come together. Only the churches remained in the village. A new district emerged along the Bahnstrasse and Bergstrasse, which was called simply a station after the courtyard behind the railroad Quallerheide or because of the proximity of the train station.

In 1909 an annex was added to the town hall.

When the aim of the territorial reform was to save Haan and Gruiten from being incorporated into the neighboring cities, BVV Gruiten did everything it could to protect the interests of its citizens. He also supported the memorable “March through Düsseldorf” on May 25, 1974.

January 1, 1975: Gruiten and Haan form a town and the administration was again in Haan.

In 1976 the town hall was sold to the Bergisch-Rheinischer Wasserverband. "
