    The term “Jewish ponds” has been handed down historically as early as the 18th century. So far, however, there is no evidence of the relationship between the ponds and the city's Jewish citizens, who settled in Goslar in the 13th century, were expelled in 1414 and returned in 1530. What is certain, however, is that the two ponds represent the remains of former moats within the ramparts.

          However, there is no evidence yet as to how the ponds were related to the city's Jewish citizens, who settled in Goslar in the 13th century, were expelled in 1414 and returned in 1530.
          What is certain, however, is that the two ponds represent the remains of former moats within the ramparts.
          Located between the inner and outer city walls, they, together with the artificially created earth wall, protected the city from attacks.
          Goslar was not completely surrounded by moats; rather, the respective topographical and geological conditions were used to create the moats.
          In the 19th century, the Jewish ponds, cascading ponds with fountains, were a popular destination for walkers in the newly created community park.
