Saint Valentin has been venerated in the parish of Eppertshausen since ancient times. A chapel is dedicated to him, which stands in the middle of the old town center. It is one of the oldest churches in the entire region and was built around 1440, making it more than 550 years old.
The Valentinus Chapel, which is a listed building, is also a pilgrimage church. Believers from near and far used to come to Eppertshausen to pray to St. Valentine, who is usually depicted as a bishop with a crippled child and who was especially pleaded for assistance and help by the sick.
The establishment of the Valentine's Chapel goes back to a criminal case. From old records from November 16, 1438, a certain Leonhart Richards, who had killed a hen Vitter in anger, had to stand before the knight Heinrich Groschlag and repent.
In order to buy himself free from the blood revenge, the "Schlagetod" had to undertake to pay 100 guilders as an atonement for four years for the construction of a chapel, which was then built by men from the community in the following years. In addition, the hothead was ordered to go on some pilgrimages and make small donations.
The Valentine's Chapel in Schulstrasse, which has been part of the community for centuries, has been renovated and restored over and over again.
