Good brakes are required. They get really hot on the 4km descent with a 12% gradient, without a break. My disc brakes were glassy after both descents...
The ride up is not recommended in high temperatures. It gets pretty warm on the asphalt and with the granite walls.
There are no opportunities to refill water until you reach the village.
Be careful, after the Ticino summer holidays, the road will be closed to traffic during the week until summer 2025 due to renovation work. It is also a private road. Driving on it without a badge (resident) actually costs 5.-. The barrier opens with a fiver. This actually also applies to cyclists. But you can get past the barrier on a bike.
