Christgarten - St. Peter
Donated in 1383 by the Count of Oettingen and well-known Nördlingen citizens.
In 1384 handed over to the Carthusian Order.
Choir stalls from around 1400.
1516 Hans-Schäufelin-Altar: showed in 24 panels the story of the church patron Peter, the legend of the death of the Virgin, holy hermits and scenes from the passion of Christ. This Schäufelin altar was five meters high and four meters wide, one of the largest of its time. After the Reformation, the altar was taken apart into individual pictures. In 1557 only three priests and one brother lived in Christgarten. Since the Counts of Oettinger supported the Reformation from 1525, Christgarten became Protestant. The last prior was a pastor in Hürnheim. 1547 and 1632 destroyed, 1656 bell tower demolished until the church was completely preserved in 1866, then broken down to the present church: the rood screen now borders the church. On it stands the organ, Opus 1 by the organ builder Sieber from Holzkirchen. The Christgarten church is used for church services in the summer months, for Passion and Advent services and as a popular wedding and baptismal church.
