Opening hours of the castle and guided tours Visits from April to the end of October open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Opening hours are from 11.00 to 13.00, then there are no guided tours. Castle courtyard, castle tower and viewing platform are open. Castle guide for small u. large groups Duration of the tour approx. 45 - 60 minutes. Appointment after telephone agreement. From 1 November to 31 March, the castle will remain closed.

Today's Grenzau district goes back to the castle of the same name, in whose castle peace it was located together with Kammerforst. A document from 1338 speaks of a house and a bailey at Grenzau Castle. It was probably the core of the village of Grenzau. This was granted city rights under the Frankfurt law by Baldwin of Luxembourg in 1346, but these were never used. Even after the castle was no longer used, the castle peace district remained, so that the inhabitants of Grenzau were still free from frondervices in 1756. At times the place seems to have been closely connected to Kammerforst. In 1723 Grenzau and Kammerforst were mentioned as a common municipality, in 1813 a common mayor was mentioned for both. In 1775, however, Kammerforst had its own mayor.

Grenzau Castle is the ruin of a spur castle at 250 m above sea level. NHN near Höhr-Grenzhausen in the Westerwald district in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is the only castle in Germany to have a triangular keep. It was built in 1210.

Grenzau Castle rises up into the Westerwald sky on a rocky ridge above the Brexbach valley. The castle ruins are the only castle in Germany to have a triangular keep.
Because of its uniqueness, it is a jewel in the crown of German castles. Up there, hikers and walkers enjoy the beautiful view of the wooded valley of the rushing Brex and look down from the tower in fascination at the historic castle village of Grenzau with the old half-timbered houses and the picturesque village church. In the distance you can see the mountains of the Vulkan - Eifel from the tower platform."
