68 heavy-duty transports from Zwickau deliver the steel parts for the bridge. There were delays in these transports because the desired shortest route could not be used due to weight restrictions on bridges on the route. The new construction, which began in September 2016, will therefore probably not be completed until mid-2021. We walk to Hofermühle to the small valley settlement of Herrenbrück. Disaster is looming in the form of heavy trucks that block the narrow road to such an extent that we can only squeeze along the edge of the hedge to come across a huge crane monster that is occupying the valley floor like a UFO with its octopus-like booms.
Chaos, noise and dirt hang over Herrenbrück, in which the residents' cries for help on posters now seem to be mercilessly drowned out.
We squeeze through the construction site to the railway embankment and are faced with an insurmountable obstacle.
"Where is the bridge?"
The worker asked which bridge we mean, there is none here and there never was.
"Due to the condition of the existing bridge, it was agreed with the town of Heiligenhaus in its function as the road construction authority to expand the existing structure and fill in this area so that train traffic can continue to run on this route. This work will take place in September 2023," a railway spokesman informed.
The new bridge will then be installed and put into operation in March 2024."
