However, since the opencast mine is moving north, there is no longer a view of the Nochten opencast mine.

The observation tower on Schweren Berg offers a view of the Nochten opencast mine and the already renatured areas on 4 different viewing platforms. 166 steps lead to the highest floor at a height of 30m. The Weißwasser communication and nature conservation center “Turm am Schweren Berg” and the “Schwerer Berg” stop of the forest railway are also located here.

Not far from the tower is the halt of the forest railway (sound railway line). According to information on waldeisenbahn.de/fragen-ANSWERS, it is possible to take a limited number of bicycles with you. On selected days, the special train departs at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. from the Weißwasser-Teichstraße station to the Schwerer Berg terminus. The three-hour round trip leads through the UNESCO Geopark Muskau Arch with its sunken forests, colorful lakes and an impressive post-mining landscape. During the one-hour stay on the Schwere Berg, the guest gets an interesting view of the Oberlausitzer Bergland from the observation tower and a supply service is offered.
