Just before the PCT/John Muir Trail reaches the Middle Fork Kings River, the Middle Fork Trail branches off to the south, crossing the Palisades creek. The bridge at this point was destroyed by high water a few years ago, so most hikers don't even go to the ruined bridge and instead wade through the often deep and hazardous creek near its confluence at the campsites. But just below the partially surviving bridge foundations a big tree log got stuck in the cliffs of the creek, creating a natural bridge that can be crossed easily and safely without getting your feet wet..
