        The Domenig Steinhaus in Steindorf am Ossiacher See was planned and built by the architect Günther Domenig between 1982 and 2008 on his private waterfront property on Lake Ossiacher. The interior work and the construction of the outdoor facilities, such as the “black hill”, took place from 1996 onwards. The architectural motifs were landscape formations with rocks and vegetation zones, hills and ravines, but also architecture from the rural area. The house has been a listed building since 2012 (list entry).

        The usable area of the five-story building is approx. 850 m² and the cubature is approx. 3500 m³. The structure is divided into an east and a west half, divided by the cube – a steel and glass structure – and the gorge. A staircase leads from the gorge to the spiral room on the second, deepest basement.

              THE STONE HOUSE: This built ME. Wrestles with the two elements, the stone and the water. Located on the water, built on water. Blocks of stone break out of the mountains and roll down into the valley as moraines. The construction, on pylons reaching deep into the ground. A concrete tub, almost two stories below level. Core space, sacred center. In the middle: the glass water column. Shows the level of groundwater, falling, rising. Stairs break their way from the central room into rooms made of stone/concrete blocks. Blasted in, lightly clad steel and glass constructions. Concentrated, explosive power. Explosion.
