Not an easy ride up in any way, extremely steep fire road paved with large chunks of stone. you can ride about 70% of the way up there but there is some aspect of hike a bike. Well worth it for the views back down the valley. I made the mistake of not turning back, and ended up carrying my bike for a few miles through moorland and then down a steep edge to river. Again all worth it for the views, not in any way easy though!
These huts are probably to do with the grouse shooting people but knowing they are there could help you if you happen to get caught in bad weather or are be-nighted
I did the same as Jordan and regretted it. The 'path' past the cabins is more of a sheep track and not really rideable, very narrow with thick Heather either side. Recommend you turn back and enjoy the decent.
