The Mahlweiher is - as its name implies - a mill pond. This served as a water reservoir for the Bachem mill mill, which was mentioned in addition to two other mills already in a deed of 866 to the Prüm monastery. It was a grain mill with two meal cereals and oil, which according to Wirges (1991, p. 128) "stood in the valley at the upper end of the Mauritius Strait until the beginning of the fifties".
The Mahlweiher is a mill pond of the Bachemer Mill, which ceased operations in the 19th century because brown coal mining dried up the streams.
Today the pond is used by the “Hecht heil” fishing club.
There are a few benches along the way that invite you to linger.
