An air defense tower has stood on the Theresienwiese since 1940. In the last months of the Second World War it became the last refuge for many Heilbronn brothers. A visit to the tower leads back to this time in an impressive way. The approximately one and a half hour tour can be booked at the Heilbronn Marketing GmbH. A maximum of 14 people are admitted per tour. Price on request

The striking high bunker on Theresienwiese was built in autumn 1940 by the Luftgaukommando VII Munich, responsible for Heilbronn. In memory of the first Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General Walther Wever, who died in 1936, he received his name.

It is the only high-rise bunker that was built in Heilbronn specifically for air raid protection during the Second World War. Otherwise, the mostly very deep and spacious cellars under the private houses of the city center were mainly used here. There were also a few underground bunkers (e.g. under Kaiser-Friedrich-Platz).

During the Second World War, the tower, the entrance of which was a few meters high, was entered via a footbridge that led from Theresienstrasse to the slaughterhouse. The footbridge was removed in the post-war period, so that access to the tower was only possible to a very limited extent. In the mid-2000s, these outer stairways had to be completely demolished due to dilapidation, making access practically impossible.

On February 2, 2016, the high bunker was given the name Theresienturm.
