These towers are crooked, twisted, angled, and intricate, yet despite this—or perhaps because of it—they're now an integral part of Düsseldorf's harbor. Many locals call them the state capital's modern landmark. A short trip into the future!

In early 1990, a competition for a new building on the site of the abolished Customs Court was tendered, the Zaha Hadid won although their "deconstructive design" [2] but finally was not executed.
From 1996 to 1998, three deconstructionist buildings were built instead to designs by Frank Gehry and Beucker, Maschlanka and partners. The three buildings show neither cornices nor sockets. [4] Striking is the curvature of the facade with a "flowing [und], wavy surface". [4] [5] The division into three buildings and the clearance of pedestrian gaps was owed to the project, the goal for the adjoining residential district access to the port to keep clear.
