The cemetery is reminiscent of a completely pointless dying: At the end of the Second World War, British associations moved from the south to Ibbenbüren. A British tank was attacked by Hitler Youth in the Volkssturm and the crew turned off by means of a thrown into the tank hand grenade. Subsequently, the British troops retreated and shot at the poorly equipped German soldiers for three days with artillery, before they took the ridge of the Teutoburg Forest. A total of three military cemeteries, the one in Brumleytal, the one on the opposite side of the Teuto at the dog training ground and the one above the squatting woman tell of this pointless skirmish, triggered by stupid fanatics.

As a memorial to the countless war dead, such places - usually referred to as "war cemeteries" or "soldiers' cemeteries" - are still very important today. "Now, Lord, you let your servant depart in peace, as you have said..." says the so-called "Hymn of Simeon" (Luke's Gospel, Chapter 2, Verse 29). However, the many people buried here did not depart in peace, but became victims of war and an inhuman tyranny.

The most important and at the same time everlasting function of soldiers' cemeteries or war cemeteries is therefore to keep the memory of this suffering alive and to remind each generation anew (!) of the need to maintain lasting peace.
