The St. Anna tunnel is a cultural monument and can be visited in a tour. Iron ore was extracted here as early as Celtic times. The tours take place on the hour from April to October, Wednesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information at nothweiler.de/erzgrube.html.

The tour is really worth it, you learn a lot about historical ore mining and even a bit about the formation of sandstone in the Palatinate. Driving into the mountain is definitely worth the extra hour of travel time.

"The knight's stone [one of the 308 knight's stones of the PWV] is integrated into the masonry of the upper tunnel entrance of the "Erzgrube St. Anna Stollen". [...] The inscription consists of three parts: 'Glückauf' refers to the traditional greeting in German mining regions. 'L. v. G.' and the year 1838 indicate the completion of the tunnel entrance by Ludwig von Gienanth. [...] Knight's stone no. 10 [with the identical name] is located at the lower tunnel entrance."
