The Berlin-Magdeburg railway line is a double-track main railway line in the federal states of Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt.
Opened in 1838, the section between Berlin and Potsdam, the Berlin-Potsdam Railway or "Stammbahn" was the first railway line of Prussia. Until 1846 it was extended by the Berlin-Potsdam-Magdeburg Railway Company to Magdeburg. In the early 1870s, the route between Burg and Magdeburg was given a completely new route, which went into operation in 1873.
From the original route from Berlin to Magdeburg, the section from the city boundary between Berlin and Potsdam to Burg bei Magdeburg operates as a double-track main line. In April 2018, freight traffic between Lichterfelde West and Zehlendorf was discontinued and thus the entire Berlin section without traffic. Between Yorckstraße and Zehlendorf the S-Bahn Berlin runs on the parallel line of the Wannseebahn.
