The approximately 9 km long interception ditch continues the Hüllgraben in Moosgrund, the extreme north-east corner of Munich, in a north-easterly direction. At the so-called ditch head, the enclosing ditch falls several meters deep into a compensation reservoir that was created between 1920 and 1929 as part of the construction of the Middle Isar Canal and the reservoir, which is 670 m long and initially 90 m wide north-east but narrowed.
