The ascent from Cray is difficult & rough. The descent in the opposite direction requires care. This is a Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT). It is used by 'greenlaners' & as a consequence has been stripped of fine gravel down to large rocks and bedrock. No problem on an MTB. Gravel riders need fat tyres & tourers can expect to walk a bit. A pity, since this is an excellent route between Wharfdale and Raydale/Wensleydale.
