In one of the towers behind the keep of "Shimabara Castle" is the "Seibo Memorial Museum". A small art museum displaying works by the sculptor »Kitamura Seibo«. He is the artist who created the statue of Nagasaki Peace Park.
The castle was completed in 1625. During the Shimabara uprising of 1638/39, the rebels besieged the castle, but they could not conquer. In the 19th century, most of the castle was demolished. However, only the perimeter walls are original, the tower was rebuilt in 1964.
