On top of the ramparts of the fortified city of Heusden you have a beautiful view over the Brabant and Gelderland landscape, the Bergsche Maas and the restored city. Walking through the picturesque streets and narrow alleys you will discover numerous centuries-old, well-preserved buildings and facades with beautiful facing bricks. The fortress therefore has an attractive character.

With its picturesque streets, centuries-old buildings, many studios and galleries, unique shops and top restaurants, the atmospheric fortified city of Heusden is a great destination for lovers of art, culture, history and good food and drink. Due to a thorough restoration, the city received the highest European restoration award: the 'Europa Nostra'.

The fortified town of Heusden was at the forefront for centuries: it developed around one of the oldest water fortresses in northwestern Europe and was one of the first Dutch cities to have a city wall.
