In front of the monastery and the Johanniterhaus (formerly the official building of the monastery; now a hotel) in Wennigsen, there is the Jünglingsbrunnen fountain, built in 1972 by Friedrich Adolf Sötebier.
Around 1200 the Wennigsen monastery was founded for Augustinian choir women. After the almost complete destruction of the complex in 1626, reconstruction work dragged on for more than a century. In 2002 the house for silence and encounters in the monastery was opened. Events take place regularly, more information is available at kloster-wennigsen.de.
