The old town hall in Soltau was also known as the "Blue Lion" hotel in the past. The old half-timbered building on Poststraße was inaugurated in 1825. At that time, Soltau had about 1,000 inhabitants (today, it has approximately 22,000 inhabitants).
A restaurant was located on the ground floor.
In 1851, the district court and prison moved into the town hall. One of the first full-time mayors was the well-known heath poet Friedrich Freudenthal. Above the window in the small gable of the town hall is the old town coat of arms from 1388.
The new town hall was inaugurated in 1981.
