This area on the lake shore is characterized by the large complex of Bräustüberl and Castle Church. The complex used to form the core of the Tegernsee monastery, a Benedictine abbey founded in the 8th century, which from that time on made the entire area around the lake arable and usable. The heyday of the monastery lasted until the early modern period. After the monastery was dissolved during the secularization of Bavaria in 1803, significant parts of the monastery complex were demolished and other parts converted into a Wittelsbach palace. The monastery church of St. Quirin was subsequently used as a parish church for the town of Tegernsee. Today, the area is particularly popular with tourists who enjoy a beer or the tasty curd cheese strudel in the Bräustüberl.

The most beautiful part of the lake promenade is between Rottach Egern and Bad Wiessee, as you are relatively far away from the road and close to the lake.
