The Maltermeisterturm is about two kilometers south of the old town of Goslar am Rammelsberg - about halfway up the same. It was probably built in the 13th or 14th century. However, its first written mention was only in 1548. Once the Maltermeisterturm served as a watchtower for the mine in Rammelsberg. A bell in the tower also rang at the beginning of each shift.
From around the middle of the 18th century, the master painter lived in the tower, which gave the building its present name. At that time, the master painter was responsible for the management of the mines needed in the mine. The Malter is an old room measure and corresponds to about 2 m³.
Today, the Maltermeisterturm is part of a restaurant with a large terrace and a wonderful view of the city of Goslar. Inside the excursion restaurant there is a curious feature - the "smoking-point". This allows the guests to smoke in the restaurant without violating the existing laws - the person must insert his head and hands through a wall opening.
The Maltermeisterturm is also a good starting point for hikes in the Rammelsberg area.
