This small coastal village has the same name as the bay where you are. Kawakawa is the name of an endemic tree found in large numbers on this part of New Zealand's north coast.
Close to the city of Auckland, you will have the impression of being very far from it.
The section of road between Clevedon, Kawakawa bay and on to the start of the seabird coast can be busy with cars towing boat trailers in the morning and evening. The road is narrow and boat trailers pass closer than the cars. Take this into consideration when choosing this route for dawn or evening riding.
