The old town has been beautifully renovated - but still doesn't seem particularly lively except for the square in front of the Goat Church. The fire tower is definitely worth climbing.

Sopron is a beautiful old city with a lot of history.
I took the train from Vienna to Deutschkreuz in October 2021. From there, Sopron can be incorporated wonderfully into the return journey to Vienna. If that is too long for you, you can get off in Sopron.
When strolling through the cobbled streets of the old town, you come across many things that you would not have expected from Sopron, which is mainly known as a shopping city. I found the Ursuline Church and the fire tower particularly beautiful.
There are plenty of cafes and restaurants on the main square where you can fortify yourself.
The journey continues through a beautiful cycle path, mostly in the forest to Mörbisch on Lake Neusiedl.
