When traveling along the river, a ferry is a great way to take a break! There aren't many of them along the Ruhr, but this one is a highlight. It's electric (in summer) and costs what it's worth. Not far from the pier are the Hardenstein Castle ruins; it's worth a detour! Incidentally, you're in the Muttental Valley, one of the early coal mining areas in the Ruhr region.

The ruhrtal ferry Hardenstein is on the way between the lock Herbede and the castle ruin Hardenstein and thus closes the gap in the road network. Already around 1883 there was a rowboat connection at this place. In the fifties of the last century, Schiffer Rosendahl recently brought day trippers over the Ruhr.
