The Glessener Höhe is an artificially constructed hill. It is a former, now recultivated, spoil heap (tipping site) of the surrounding brown coal open-cast mines.

Between 1955 and 1970, the Glessener Höhe was heaped up as an external landfill from the masses of the opencast mines north of the forest. On its recultivated slope edge, the so-called “sky ladder” facilitates the ascent to the agricultural plateau of the 85 m high heap, which even has a summit cross.

The Glessener Höhe is an overburden of brown coal mining, which was created and recultivated between 1955 and 1970. The steep slopes are wooded with poplar, beech, birch, oak and spruce trees.
At the summit cross are 204 m above sea level. NN reached. Until the emergence of the Sophienhöhe, which was heaped up from 1978, this was the highest point between Eifel and Bergisches Land.
