Nestled in magnificent scenery, the town offers many other opportunities to experience unique mountain rides, in addition to the inevitable climb to Alpe de'Huez. Glandon, Croix de Fer, Lautaret, and Galibier are just the most well-known destinations. And thanks to its popularity as a result of the Tour de France, the town boasts a perfect infrastructure for cyclists.

What a place to base yourself from for some great cycling, and some fantastic cols! You are moments away from the base of Alpe d'Huez, and classics such as Croix de Fer, Glandon and Galibier are on your doorstep. Plenty of other route available as well of course. The road from Bourg up to La Grave can be quite busy with lorries arc, and has a bunch of tunnels, so some prefer to drive that section and park up. Only ever been in Sept, which means Bourg can be (mercifully) quite quiet with a lots of restaurants and shops shut. But there are enough places open to eat and drink.. Getting there is Sept can be a bit more awkward than in high seasons as there aren't as many flights to i.e. Grenoble, but the drive from Geneva is pleasant enough. Weather in Sept also a bit more variable. We've had 18 degree in the valley and settling snow at the top of Galibier, so as ever, head out into the mountains prepared for all weathers.

This village breathes cycling! Bicycle shops, terraces and an authentic atmosphere. Everyone you meet here has a thing for cycling, this feels like coming home!
