Castle Ardeck was in the Middle Ages Landesburg the county Diez. Your first documentary mention can be found in a chronicle of Tilemann Elhen von Wolfhagen from the year 1395th Probably served the relatively small castle initially as a border fortification against Katzenelnbogen. The builder is Count Adolf von Nassau-Dillenburg.

From 1467, the castle was the headquarters of the family of Dietrich von Diez, which they received in that year by the lords of the county Diez to the fief. The family held the Erbmarschallamt of the county Diez. Other of their relatives were the castle in the years 1487, 1589 and 1624 demonstrably as a fief.

After the family died out in 1727, the castle was no longer inhabited and disintegrated. Already in records from the year 1740 it is called completely expired. The ruin is today owned by the community Holzheim.

Always nice to come by here. The castle is unfortunately in ruins and can be visited, or the decay can be seen inside.
