      "The building of today's Saarland State Theater in Saarbrücken was built in the neoclassical style between 1937 and 1938 on behalf of Joseph Goebbels based on designs by Paul Otto August Baumgarten, one of Adolf Hitler's favorite architects. [...]
      Officially, the "Gautheater Saarpfalz" (also called "Grenzlandtheater Saarbrücken" or "Westmarktheater") was a gift from Hitler for the result of the Saar referendum of 1935 in the Saar area. More than half of the stated construction costs of 3,500,000 Reichsmarks had to be financed by the city of Saarbrücken itself. [...]
      On October 9, 1938, the new theater building was inaugurated in the presence of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Goebbels ’and Heinrich Himmler with a performance of Richard Wagner's opera The Flying Dutchman in a glamorous setting."

      With regard to the cost sharing in the construction, the designation "Stadttheater" at the highlight is understandable, but correctly it is called Saarland State Theater.
      It serves the fields of drama, ballet, concert and musical theater.

      The forecourt (Tbilisser Platz) offers space for large concert stages, snack bars and seating and is often used at parties. The green strip along the theater, tended by the city nursery, is (in my opinion) regularly beautiful and variedly planted and also worth a look.
