Saint-Jean-de-Pied-de-Port could be considered one of the most beautiful villages in France.
The town is divided into two parts. On a bank of the River Nive you will find the 'upper city' with the Citadel, the wall and the old town. In the other, the District of Spain is located, also walled and special because it is made up of Basque-French style houses that stand out for their white walls and red and green windows.
In the city you will find a campsite and many hostels for pilgrims to sleep.
If you come from Spain, the ideal way to start the Camino de Santiago by bike here is to arrive by bus from Pamplona. Between March and October there are several daily connections with the Alsa company, although you will have to carry the bike in a cover and indicate this when buying the online ticket. You can also take a SNCF train from Irun-Hendaye.
