    Berlin is cool and known for many things. But not through its bathing lakes. Wrongly so, in my opinion. The five kilometer long Schlachtensee in the heart of Zehlendorf is the purest local recreation area. Whether for walking, swimming, jogging or biking - the Schlachtensee offers nature and a holiday feeling in the city.

      The Schlachtensee is a lake in the Grunewaldseenkette in the Berlin district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf. The lake is surrounded by an approx. 6 km long shoreline. It is ideal for walkers, hikers, runners and cyclists. There are several bathing spots on the lake. In the summer months, every free space is used for swimming. There is a boat rental on the east side of the lake. There is the Alte Fischerhütte and Fischerhütte at the Schlachtensee, as well as a snack bar with seating.
      The Schlachtensee can be easily reached via the Schlachtensee S-Bahn station (S1) and the Krumme Lanke underground station (U3).

        There are many swimming spots and a pretty sandy path along the shore. At various lenders you can rent all sorts of watercraft, there are several restaurants.
        At the weekend, when the weather is nice, there are quite a few people on the way.

                    Nice green round on the outskirts of Berlin. A detour to the fisherman's hut to take a break is always worthwhile.
                    Behind the fisherman's hut just follow a hiking path up to the right ... and enjoy a lap around the lake through the forest in a more relaxed way.

                                          The Schlachtensee is a lake in southwest Berlin in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district on the edge of the Grunewald. The eastern part of the lake belongs to the district of Zehlendorf, the western part to the district of Nikolassee.

                                          The tubular Schlachtensee is almost the southernmost lake in the Grunewald chain of lakes, which geologically belongs to the Teltow plateau and was formed as a glacial channel around 15,000 years ago in the Brandenburg stage of the Vistula Ice Age.

                                          With an area of around 421,000 m² and a maximum depth of around 8.5 meters, it is one of the larger lakes in the Berlin urban area; the circumference is 5.5 kilometers. The lakeshore is used intensively for walks and, with its continuous riverside path, is one of the most popular jogging routes in Berlin. With its good water quality and wooded location, the Schlachtensee is also a popular bathing area.

                                          Since 1981 around three million m³ of water from the Großer Wannsee have been almost completely freed of phosphate in the Beelitzhof surface water treatment plant and then discharged with almost drinking water quality at the southwest end of the Schlachtensee. The quality of the water in the lake has improved significantly since then. However, increasing use, bank destruction and further phosphate inputs (including dog excrement, soil erosion, feeding water birds, stirring up sediment) threaten the quality of the water.

                                          There is a boat rental on the east side of the lake. Anglers will find 18 species of fish in the Schlachtensee and the neighboring Krummen Lanke. The lake and the residential area are well connected to local public transport via the Schlachtensee S-Bahn station.

                                              You can stop for a bite to eat in the fisherman's hut. At weekends there is a beer garden with snacks outside right by the Schlachtensee. And in summer there is a SUP rental station and rowing boats for rent.
