Anita doesn't make it. She dies on August 4th. Garibaldi, with his heart full of tears, is forced to flee immediately, hunted by the Austrians.
From August 25th to 31st Garibaldi is helped by many Tuscan patriots to cross all of Tuscany through the provinces of Florence, Siena, and Piss, up to the Grosseto area.
An hour later they will be at the foot of the Massa Marittima hill, from where, assisted by volunteers from Scarlino and Massa, Garibaldi will arrive at Cala Martina to embark on the morning of September 2nd 1849.
