After the long, winding, and steep approach, you immediately recognize where you're headed. Parking spaces are located on both sides of the road (later, the road itself becomes a parking lot). A toilet block (not particularly inviting) and a few picnic areas mark the entrance to this dreamlike area. Certainly more 'mystical' in fog, but even on clear days, the gnarled trees are impressive. A steep climb over green meadows grazed by free-roaming cows promises a good view of the Atlantic on Madeira's north side. Depending on your mood, you can take a short stroll or hike for hours through the landscape...
