One of the notable corners of our region is undoubtedly the Kineshemsky Pogost in the Vyaznikovsky District - a beautiful place, quite hard to reach and almost romantic, which, unlike the city of the same name on the Volga, is called "Vyaznikovsky Kineshma". Historical tradition connects the emergence of the pogost with an older contemporary of Sergius of Radonezh, Mikhail Verizhnik, a monk-ascetic of the second half of the 13th - first third of the 14th century, who lived in the forests on the left bank of the Klyazma and became famous for the fact that in order to humble his spirit and flesh, he voluntarily wore heavy chains-chains.
The Nikolsky Church in the Kineshemsky Pogost was first mentioned in documents in the late 1620s, when the lands there were the property of the widow of the boyar Prince Fyodor Ivanovich Mstislavsky, Princess Irina Mikhailovna, née Princess Temkina-Rostovskaya. Prince Mstislavsky, a direct descendant of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas, was considered one of the most noble people of the Muscovite state. Twice - in 1606 and 1611 - he was even offered to take the Russian throne. But Prince Mstislavsky did not want to become Tsar of All Rus' Feodor III, and was one of the initiators of the elevation of Mikhail Feodorovich Romanov to the throne.

Feodor and Irina Mstislavsky owned the city of Yaropolch-Zalessky - the forerunner of today's Vyazniki with all its environs.

In ancient times, there was a legend that during the Time of Troubles at the beginning of the 17th century, the princes Mstislavsky hid part of their countless treasures in one of the underground hiding places in the Kineshma churchyard. Allegedly, in the middle of the century before last, local peasants even found part of this treasure, including ancient armor and weapons decorated with gold notches. It is difficult to say whether this is a legend or a fact. In any case, it is certain that the banks of the Klyazma still hide many secrets that have not yet been revealed. The first stone church of the same name in the Kineshemsky Pogost was built for almost fifteen years - from 1807 to 1821, the three-tiered stone bell tower - belfry was built for another 4 years - from 1847 to 1851. This church and bell tower have survived to this day.
