In the northern part of the Märkisches Viertel there are two lakes. The smaller Mittelfeldbecken, which can only be reached via park paths, and the Seggeluchbecken (the name comes from Segge for reed grass and Luch for swamp), which is twice as large and is divided by a road bridge. Both lakes are connected by small ditches. The system of ditches around the Packereigraben runs through the entire northern quarter and is used to drain the surface water.
