GRES-3 is the world's first thermal power plant using peat from Moscow region swamps as fuel. This bold, progressive idea belonged to power engineer R. Klasson, who was at the origins of the creation of domestic power engineering. The power plant and settlement (now the city of Elektrogorsk) in the Bogorodsky district of the Moscow region were named "Elektroperedacha".
