    The church was originally built in the 16th century as the chapel of the Hospital de la Santa Misericordia, which was managed by the monks of the Order of the Third Franciscans. The church was originally dedicated to Santa Isabel1. Since the early 17th century, the image of the Santísimo Cristo de la Misericordia, who is the patron saint of Jodar, has been venerated in the church.
    The current church was built between 1700 and 1759. It has undergone several important renovations, including an important renovation between 1966 and 1968 that gave the church its current appearance. The church has a neo-Renaissance altarpiece by Bravo Nogales (1956) and a marble baptismal font from 1616. In addition, the church has a stained glass window from the 19th century and paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Besides the church itself, there is also the Centro Parroquial, a beautiful building that was built between 1985 and 2005 with contributions from the entire city. This building is intended for a shelter work
