When Sophie Charlotte died in 1705, the castle and the nearby village received their name. With the death of King Frederick I in 1713, the construction work was stopped and only continued under Frederick the Great in 1740.
The Prussian kings and German emperors once resided in this magnificent palace with its fantastic garden and park. The interior of the castle can be visited. In addition to rooms and halls furnished true to the original, there is also an art collection and porcelain to admire.
