Yes, the Tremalzo is a classic, mainly because of the panorama and the history. Technically speaking, there are nicer things to do than the rough scree slope. But if you are a biker who is in good physical condition and shy of asphalt and definitely wants to conquer the Tremalzo from Lake Garda, I recommend the following route: from Riva on the Ponalestrasse up to Lake Ledro and from there, at the end of a miserably steep slope up to the Bocca dei Fortini and on to the Passo Nota (at the foot of Tremalzo). But then not up to Tremalzo, but down to Vesio on slope 106 and briefly on the road to the turnoff to Val San Michele. From there it's a good, lonely 1000hm up to the Rifugio Tremalzo and a few more up to the tunnel. Then the classic descent over the Tremalzo slope, Passo Rocchetta and Pregasina down to Riva. Are pretty much exactly 80km and 3000hm, but every meter is mobile.

Upstairs there is a reward for a beautiful panoramic view.

On my Tremalzo conquest in the last week of april I was lucky with almost no traffic - neither car nor bike. Probably also on the mixed weather (when I was up there was after half an hour break sleet).

Oh, weather:
My originally planned tour over the Como della Marogna and passo Nota I had to stop because of snow on the roads at the Como della Marogna. For the bike through the partly high snow (up to 1m) I really had no desire.
So who wants to go safe, should drive in the summer.

Be sure to bring enough drinks!

I was looking forward to refugio Garibaldi, which should be open according to the signs. Even e-bike charging is possible here.
However, I had to say above that it was just closed.

🚵 we are the Monte Tremalzo the pass road (about 13 km / about 1,000 meters) ramped up with a moderate slope and down the gravel road (through the loose roller ball ned quite easy to drive, as always oncoming traffic (bikers & hikers) is on the way and you have to dodge into deep gravel.
But an absolute classic on Lake Garda and the effort is well rewarded 🙂
Andersrum (gravel road high - pass road down) is only recommended for bikers who like to torment 😉
